According to researchers at the Oregon State University, San Francisco, March 29(mostly a tea apprentice), white tea may have the strongest potential for all tea. They will study today at the 219th National Conference of the American Chemical Society, the world’s largest scientific society.
Of the most expensive varieties of tea, white tea is almost entirely produced in China. It belongs to the same species as other tea trees, but has a higher proportion of bud to leaf. The bud is covered with silver hair, making the plant look white. Some tea is processed more than others.
White tea is quickly evaporated and dried, and the remaining leaves are actually fresh, Green tea, consisting mainly of leaves, cooked or fired before rolling. Woolong tea and red tea get their dark and flavor from more processing.
“When green tea is further processed into oolong tea and black tea, many of the more effective tea polyphenols (catechins) are oxidized or destroyed,” said Dr. RoderickH.Dashwood, a biochemist and lead researcher at the Linas Pauline Institute in the United States. “Our theory is that white tea may have considerable or higher levels of these polyphenols.” It’s more beneficial than green tea. ”
Chemical analysis confirms their theory. White tea contains the same polyphenols as green tea, but the proportion is different. A large number of people may be responsible. Encouraged by reports of anticancer chemicals in green tea, the researchers decided to test white tea to determine whether it had a similar quality.
They brewed four white varieties and tested tea with bacteria. The test, known as the Salmonella test, determines whether chemicals can cause or prevent DNA mutations, the earliest steps leading to cancer. White tea is more effective in inhibiting mutation than green tea. This means that it may be more likely to prevent cancer than green tea, said Dr. Gilberto Santana-Rios, a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute in Corvallis, Oregon.
The researchers are now experimenting with mice and their latest data sheets understand that tea may be particularly useful in the prevention of colon cancer. They attributed this to an increase in the level of liver enzymes. More research is needed to determine if white tea really protects people from cancer, the researchers said.
“White tea, and normal tea, is a healthy alternative to other popular drinks, such as soda,” Dashwood said. “But for the sake of safety, we should maintain a healthy lifestyle, including a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, exercise regularly and avoid smoking,”
